As president of the New York City organization public service Retirees, the organization that brought the law suit against the city of New York to stop from being forced into a Medicare Advantage plan, in a joint alliance where anthem/elements health was a partner. I’m glad they withdrew As after reading this article, it is quite apparent, that Anthony would have continued to deny care and stepped up prior authorization to the most vulnerable population, are retired seniors. Those who gave decades of city service. This is pure corporate greed. You have to wonder how great a plan is if they have to force you into it using auto enrollment procedures rather than opt in procedures.

I really appreciate your work and deep insights around this shell game being played by the insurers (and let's not forget hospital systems, etc are also part of this). The LOOP coalition that you run has a great goal, however, I have to wonder, if you're successful in your goal to lower out of pocket costs (let's say, by a gov't mandate), won't the insurers just shift to much higher premiums to cover their loses? I think the insurers and the hospital systems need to be exposed together. Why is it that two different patients can owe vastly different dollars for the SAME exact procedure at the SAME hospital? Because of the behind-the-curtain antics of the insurers and hospitals. It's a shell game and patients lose every, single, time.
