Went to the Mayo Clinic in Minnesota for MOHS surgery. Was not insured. Was required to pre-pay for EVERY procedure, so my first "deposit" was $5,000. Received a initial diagnosis and treatment plan (MOHS surgery) and then had to pre-pay again for a new MRI (brought my MRI's with me and they were current scans) for $4,500!!! MOHS procedure was performed and once again, I had to pre-pay for everything. MAYO refused to negotiate any costs or prices despite being paid in cash. Then, to literally put me back together (pedical flap procedure) and close up the huge hole I had from the MOHS surgery, I pre-paid once more (tens of thousands, think it was $30k or thereabouts). Total costs were nearly $90,000. The claim that "they will negotiate" or "you can pay what insurers pay" isn't true. This bankrupted my entire family (I'm the only breadwinner) and I'm now terrified what to do next. I need additonal back surgery for chronic pain, stenosis and collapsed disk. Scouring health scam / "plans" reveals even more terror. The US medical system is completely broken and taken over by the mafia disguised as "providers" and "insurers" and even hospitals. I don't know what to do - die? Become an alcoholic to contain the pain? I pay out-of-pocket for everything now and have for many decades. Even a simple urine test to "prove" I'm taking my prescription painkillers is over $300 now (which is insane). Former federal employee, worked all my life and to be treated by this county like this is insane, but we let this happen and so did our legislatures, in league with the medical mafia. US has the worst health "coverage" of every other developed nation, transfering the wealth and assets of Americans one-by-one to their coffers. I won't let that happen, I would rather be dead.
